Cinco de Mayo
¡Ole! Thursday is Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday commemorating the win over the French Army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The holiday is meant to celebrate Mexican culture with parades, food and music.
In the states, we like to do it with Mexican beer and tequila.
Check my column on Thursday for details, but here’s what’s going on:
Sierra Madre Saloon
- basically, the place to be. Live bands Thurs., Fri. and Sat. night
outside on the Madre’s new patio. Mariachi band inside. Free food
during Happy Hour (5-7 p.m.), plus clowns, face-painting etc. for the
kids. A family friendly event. Er, wait, there are also Cuervo tastings from 6-9 p.m.
Hardware Bar – Hot Shot contest. Drink more shots of hot sauce than anyone else and win $500.
Brick Haus – It’s Irish day there. Drink Guinness with your $1 tacos.
El Rodeo – No mariachi at the Rte. 22 location on Thursday (though they have them tonight). Check the other locations for entertainment. The restaurant will have a raffle, one ticket per table, to win things like t-shirts, hats and coupons.

And I will be celebrating with about 50 other co-workers at “Cron-alina’s”. What can I say, our company likes to party!
