In the post below, “E” asks, “if you were looking for an apartment, and wanted to move downtown, where would you recommend?”
Well, E, I live in Midtown Harrisburg. I have a reasonable river view apartment. I can walk downtown, to the Broad Street Market and to work. I don’t, incidentally, but I could.
As for downtown Harrisburg, I understand there are some fine apartments at Pennsylvania Place and the Executive House, but you’re likely going to pay out the nose for them.

Also, check some of the classifieds on Harrisburg Young Professionals website — you may find some efficiencies or apartments for rent by owner.
You can also use Pennlive for this purpose and search for Harrisburg City.

Anyone else have any good suggestions for E?
E, can you be more specific about what you’re looking for?

I live right on the northern edge of downtown. In my opinion, the little neighborhood around Green & North is arguably the nicest in the city. For me, the location can’t be beat. I’m a few blocks from all the downtown bars and restaurants, city island, the river, and only about 5 minutes over the bridge to my office in Camp Hill.
The downside is parking. My apartment doesn’t include a spot in the rent, so I’m on the street. The meters come on at 8 AM on the week days and I’m not exactly a morning person, so I’ve paid my share of $15 tickets.
If you’re interested, my apartment will be available at the end of July (I’m moving to California). It’s a huge 1 bed / 1 bath, 2nd story walk up. (The rent is in the 600s) If anyone is interested, drop me an email and I’ll be sure to connect you with the landlord (who’s a pretty cool guy).

Sara,
I’m not looking for anything specific, just a place to get….would like for it to be downtown.
I guess the best thing to say is that I want a nice place, downtown, with reasonable rent. Parking is clutch but not necessary.
I may be moving out of the area in due time anyway, but if I am sticking, I am definitely getting out of the living arrangment I am in right now ASAP.
I lived in Executive House for five years, and I loved it. I had a corner apartment, about 1000 square feet, for $777 a month including everything — garage parking, electric, w/s/t, heat, a/c. That was a one-bedroom, and they have studios if you’re looking for something less expensive.
Overall the place was very well-maintained and the rent was very reasonable. There are days I’ve considered selling my home and moving back downtown, and Exec is where I’d go. Towne House also has some nice apartments, but they’re a little far from Second, and their prices were higher than I wanted to pay.
Of course, if cost is your ONLY factor, there’s Grayco …
My first place downtown was Pa Place. I had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom on the 21st floor riverside for $950 a month(What I paid 3 years ago). The staff was excellant and the building well maintained. I loved it. They have a pool room/rec room/gym/pool/internet room and a outdoor BBQ area. I ended up moving to midtown and buying an apartment building. I live in one apartment and rent the others out. I also have off street parking which is a HUGE PLUS in the midtown area. If one of my apartments opens up I will post info.
Downtown is the place to go. Midtown is the place to live!
But, Sara, why don’t you walk?? For me, driving downtown can’t save more than four minutes, when getting parking is included. Plus I save money on gas and parking, and reduce my CO2 emmissions!!
Well, for pretty decent reasons. Many times I’ll need my car to run an errand over lunch or need to be somewhere immediately after work — for this I need my car. As for downtown, I’d probably rather not walk alone that mile home at who knows what hour of the night.
I mean to, and I think to, but usually one of these reasons get in the way.
I live in the Mulberry Station apartments on 2nd St… I would recommend that they be avoided at all costs.

Wow, u seem like the gal to know in hbg. I am movin there soon for grad school. Do you have any ideas as to where I should live. I want to be midtown, in a good size–but cheap–victorian that has not robbed with a remodel of its original integrity.
