St. Patrick’s Day in Harrisburg

**Update**
I officially got my first phone call summoning me to commence drinking. It is precisely 7:51 a.m. I refrained. Maybe I’ll make it out by lunchtime.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, the day when everyone is Irish, or so they say.

Since the holiday falls today, on a Friday, expect a decent daytime crowd. My friends aren’t the only ones crazy enough to take a half day for the occasion.

Here’s the plan:

Lunch at Flinchy’s. They’re starting at 8 a.m. with green eggs, of course (they opened early at 7 a.m. this morning). At night, check out the Freddie Long Band inside.

After lunch, we’re moving downtown to McGrath’s Pub, where my friend, Nixon will be recording his radio show live from the second floor. I didn’t pay enough attention to get all their specials (and sadly, they don’t have a website), but there should plenty of Irish stuff going on.

I also love to stop into Cragin’s Brick Haus on St. Patrick’s Day – they’ve got $2 Coronas and 50 cent Tacos!

Don’t forget about downtown’s other two Irish bars, Molly Brannigan’s and Ceoltas (key-ole-tus), serving up Irish specialties all day long as well.

Tomorrow, join the City for the annual Harrisburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade, beginning at 2 p.m. Molly’s has pre-parade events, as does McGrath’s, and I image there are others. See Irish dancers, high school bands, bagpipe players and floats.

The Brick Haus sets up bleachers outside their building and opens the downstairs bar for easy alcohol consumption. It’s going to be cold this year, so bundle up!

I am actually going to be in the parade… dressed like a sheep. Really.
