FireHouse goes nonsmoking
The FireHouse Restaurant will go 100 percent nonsmoking next Thursday, March 20, to commemorate the first day of spring. Smoking will no longer be permitted on the first two levels after March 20. I have heard rumor, however, that smoking will still be allowed on the third floor during special events.

As a non-smoker, I welcome this news whole-heartedly. However, non-smoking venues work best when it’s a voluntary all-or-nothing within the city. That way, venues don’t lose patrons to “the place next door that still allows smoking”.
I’m all for this and think that The Firehouse is going to definitely benefit from making this leap-
Many of the events that I promote which are ‘non smoking nights’ are almost ALWAYS bigger nights than average-
I’m a smoker too- but simply cannot WAIT for the day Harrisburg catches up with the rest of the civilized world and clears the air.
Disagree…most people who complain about smoke are those people who go out once or twice per month. They do not reciprocate the business back to the bars that the smoking/happy hour crowds do.
I live right across the street from Firehouse. I will be interested to see how this affects their bar business.
Hey Ed, Figure there is a reason why people who complain about smoke only go out once or twice a month? The reason bans have INCREASED business in our neighboring states is that non smokers– the majority of the population– will start going out more often!
Time for PA to join the rest of the civilized world and stop looking so back-assed.
Great news! We’ve been longtime fans of the Firehouse and now that we won’t have to come home smelling like ashtrays, we’ll be heading there more often!
People who worry that smoking bans are “bad for business” should visit NYC sometime. Seems to be working out beautifully for everyone; even the smokers I know don’t mind it so much. Cheers
Ed, according to your comments about 25% of the population is responsible for over 80% of bar/restaurant revenues. Do yo have any evidence or data to support that claim?
