If you've hung around Midtown Harrisburg or the Harrisburg Twittersphere, you've likely met – or chatted with – Dawn, co-owner (with her daughter, Jessica) of The HodgePodgery, a Midtown shop stocked with the wares of local artists and craftsmen. Many of the items, which span the realm from quirky to vintage and everywhere in-between, are made from recycled and re-purposed materials and all crafted by local/regional hands.
Dawn and Jessica have expanded beyond the simple retail transaction, however, and offer a variety of crafting classes at the shop, none of which, I promise you, are the least bit boring (see "Szechuan Sock Monkey").
In fact, The HodgePodgery is oh-so-sweet to offer one of my fine readers two seats to their "Close to the Heart Charm" class on July 9 OR two custom-designed "Close to the Heart Charm" pendants (value = $50). (So, you can go to the class and make your own, or you can pick out two that someone else has designed.)
