Happy New Year! I hope you had a safe and happy celebration last night and — unlike my husband and former coworkers — lazily enjoyed a day of bowl games or Law & Order SVU marathon with your pork and sauerkraut.
It was a busy year here at SaraBozich.com, including this brand new look (Thanks, Rich!), and I’m excited for 2013 and all this year may bring.
We’ve been posting a lot over the past week, and I skipped the weekend’s catch-up post to instead share New Year’s Eve recommendations. By the way, if you’re looking to head out today, whether to watch football or to party more, I also included New Year’s Day hours in this post.
Now, before we dive completely into the new year, let’s take a look back at 2012:
In September, a little rain didn’t stop us from a fun night at Felicita Golf Course for Links & Drinks.
In November, we visited MoMo’s BBQ & Grill for the final Happy Hour of the year.
In April, I traveled to Jamaica for the first time for one of my longest and dearest friend’s wedding.
We stayed in Ocho Rios for about 5 days and had glorious weather.
Note: When using spray SPF, don’t forget to spray your dominant arm after you do the rest of your body so you don’t get one lobster arm, as seen here.
The Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country trail began, featuring a handful of local vineyards with seasonal showcase events like Sweet Sensations of May and Fall Festival.
In April, Mike, Tierney and I took a tour of the Perry County branch. We’re due for another field trip shortly.
The Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country now includes 15 local wineries!
I signed up as a volunteer and walked much of the multi-acre event at Mount Pocono. We were lucky to have great weather – sunny and almost 70 degrees.
In May, the #hbgtweetup group celebrated 5 years!
We meet monthly (every third Wednesday) at 7 p.m. The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Co. Join us!
I was asked to cut the #failwhale cake.
The Dauphin County Wine & Music Festival took place in early June. A bunch of us went together and had an absolute ball. We brought a ton of snacks, from venison to parmesan cookies and sampled wine from a host of local vineyards.
It was our first time at this event, but I think we’ll return – what a blast.
On Aug. 1, we hosted the first-ever SaraBozich.com Booze Cruise — an incredibly fun event with a fantastic group of people. We pre-partied on the Overlook Deck, then cruised the Susquehanna River for a couple hours on a school night.
In 2013, we’ll have two Booze Cruises, so sign-up for our Events mailing list today!
In August, Andy and I took a mini vacation to Erie, Pa. for a long weekend.
Our road trip took us through the scenic PA Wilds before landing us in North East, Pa., right near the New York border.
We fished for perch on Lake Erie (which was so much fun), visited Presque Isle State Park and went winery hopping – all in naturally beautiful Pennsylvania!
Our intention was then to stop in to Max’s for a drink before going to an Orioles game, but a rain delay had us sampling multiple brews from Max’s extensive beer list. Tierney and Rich started requesting really rare beers — it’s a wonder they ever made it to the game!
In August, I attended my first blogger conference, albeit one geared towards Healthy Living bloggers (hey, I like health, too!) in Boston.
What a spectacular city! It’s known to be one of the biggest walking towns in the country, and it was neat to see so many people out and about running, walking and biking.
In October, I was honored to be a guest on WITF-TV Smart Talk, hosted by Nell Abom. I joined Anne Deeter Gallaher and Kendra Metz from Pavone.
We talked about the rise of social marketing and how it changes the way companies do business. Our discussion is featured is the second segment of the hour-long program.
This year they introduced a cooking competition, PA Chopped, and I was honored to be one of the guest judges alongside international star, Chef Pippa Calland.
I went to my first Penn State football game this year, apparently on the one weekend where the students weren’t in, so I’ve been told I haven’t had the “full” experience. We sat in a fancy box, anyway, but I like it up there – even if the guys had to borrow my sunglasses.
I’m looking forward to getting to a Penn State wrestling match later this month — not my first — I’ve been to a handful now and consider myself a PSU Wrestling fan.
Unfortunately, as many of you know, I lost a dear friend in November. That week, two of us traveled to his hometown for a rather surreal experience — and were greeted by the town’s holiday parade. Only Jersey.
The road trip itself was unforgettable, and the hope is that it will bring two of us closer together.
The Vineyard at Hershey and Flinchy’s hosted an all gluten-free, multi-course wine pairing dinner. Did you know Flinchy’s offers a gluten free menu? Now you know.
Speaking of The Vineyard at Hershey, I hosted the first-ever SaraBozich.com Holiday Party there in December.
Everyone had a great time getting gussied up for a little something different.
We sampled Vineyard at Hershey wines, while DJ Geoffro provided the soundtrack.
Meanwhile, we spent the first part of our Christmas in scenic Elk County, where our dog photobombed us while romping through the snow.
Definitely a personal “Buzzfeed” moment for us.
