Although the headlining act for the evening is Everclear, the real star of The Vineyard and Brewery at Hershey’s Merlot and Flash Gourd’n Release Party might be bourbon

For five years now, the famous (or infamous) Merlot Release Party has been The Vineyard’s biggest event of the year. In the past, the first bottle of Merlot has been delivered in dramatic fashion — whether flown in by helicopter or delivered by Paul Tuetel Sr. from Orange County Choppers.

The Vineyard & Brewery at Hershey’s Merlot and Flash Gourd’n Release Party is THIS Saturday, Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. to p.m.

»» Preorder TIX – $20 ($25 at the door)

In addition to dope add of scoring of Everclear as this year’s feature entertainment, two bourbon-aged treats are being released — limited only! — alongside the Merlot and Flash Gourd’n pumpkin ale.

Interm Jimi and I did the hard work for you and already pre-tasted this weekend’s features.

Flash Gourd’n

brewery at hershey

The Brewery at Hershey’s version of a pumpkin spiced ale starts with a traditional Octoberfest base with pilsner and Munich malts to impart the bready, smooth and subtly sweet flavor that is accentuated by the traditional fall spices of allspice, nutmeg and ginger.

Merlot

This is the fifth year for winemaker L. Paul Vezzetti’s Merlot and each year it is one of the most anticipated wines in the Vineyard’s lineup. It’s a classic Merlot with great bold flavors and a classic dry finish.

And, about the bourbon I mentioned …

Flash Bourb’n

brewery at hershey

Brewmaster Ryan Deluitis took the 2015 batch of Flash and laid it in oak whiskey barrels from Smooth Ambler Distillery for almost a whole year. The end result is almost a whole new beer. It features a great woody note with a touch of bourbon to round out an extremely balanced beer.

NOTE: Ryan only made a limited amount, so get there early to check it out.

Articles of Impearment

vineyard at hershey

No, that’s not a typo. The base for this cider is done with all Pennsylvania apples and fermented with fresh pear mash and then was aged on bourbon soaked oak, to give the cider a pleasant whiskey aroma. It has a sweet, refreshing taste with hints of vanilla, pear and just a little bit of bourbon.

Drink Up!

Bottles of Merlot and Articles of Impairment will be available to purchase to go while Flash Gourd’n will be availed to take home in crowlers. Flash Bourb’n will only be available to drink during the party.

Pro tip: Get to the Vineyard early with lawn chairs and blankets to claim your spot in front of the stage. The best seats will go quickly. Gates, food trucks and the artisan village open at 11 a.m. with the live music starting at noon.

Grab one of the featured beers, wine or cider and relax with a day full of music and more at the Vineyard.

Schedule of events:

  • 11 a.m. – Gates, food trucks and artisan village
  • 12 p.m. – Wave
  • 3 p.m. – All Jacked Up
  • 6:30 p.m. Everclear
