What Mom REALLY Wants for Mother’s Day

This weekend we take the time to honor and appreciate Moms of all varieties. Guess what: I know exactly what the mom in your life wants for Mother’s Day. It’s not hard to figure out if you just ask them, which is what I did informally on Facebook this week.

While every mom will tell you that homemade gifts are lovely, this year you can show mom that you really care by keeping it simple. So, what exactly does mom want for Mother’s Day?

Sleep

Honestly, this is something I think all of us want, but when asked this was the number one request for Mother’s Day. Think about it: moms are running at full speed all day every day whether they’re SAHM, working moms, or anything in-between. Sleep can sometimes be hard to come by. When asked, most moms wanted not just to sleep, but to sleep past 7 a.m. That’s not even late, I think we can all manage to give them some time. Some moms even wanted an additional nap. Girl, it’s your day, why not? Give these ladies what they want and let them catch some zzzs!

Brunch

Again, something most of us want, many wanted brunch, and not just to go eat brunch but to be with family. Brunch with all the kiddos, and even grand kiddos was the second most requested item when polled. Looks like the day is shaping up nicely — sleep in for a bit, take mama to brunch with the fam, and have a drink while you’re there. Sara’s got a full list of Mother’s Day brunch ideas here, but personally, I vote that you treat mom to The Garlic Poet or Cafe 1500. Be sure to make your reservations ASAP!

A massage

Let mom sleep in: check. Take her to brunch: check. Next up, give her a massage! Whether it’s at-home or a spa day, who doesn’t love a good back rub? Even if you’re not a skilled masseuse, any and all attempts are appreciated, or maybe dive in for a foot rub? If you’re looking to purchase a great spa treatment, The Chocolate Spa at The Hotel Hershey is the absolute best, but I also think Polished Day Spa has excellent a la carte services available. If you’re kicking it at home, I recommend grabbing a nourishing massage oil or lotion, preferably with ultra-hydrating coconut oil.

Just a little bit of ‘me’ time

Yes, many moms said they were so happy to spend time with all of their children together, doing the family thing, but even more wanted just a little time for themselves. A long soak in the tub. Getting the opportunity to watch something they want, not just Mickey and Peppa Pig all day. An ‘ahh’ moment putting her feet up with a glass of wine or beer (or whiskey, get it ladies) and some chocolate. The level of self-sacrifice that is being a mother is something I can’t begin to fathom – I hope you all get a few moments to relax for Mother’s Day.
