6 Halloween Shows to Scare Up Your Weekend
It’s time for one of my favorite holidays of the year — Halloween!
A weekend filled with spooky events and activities before we start seeing all things Christmas everywhere we look. I am looking forward to a weekend filled with all types of Halloween-related events. So I decided to pick out a few of the best in the area to share with you.
Thursday, Oct 26: SoMa Pumpkinfest
We’re closing down S. Third St. between Market and Chestnut once again! Come join the SaraBozich.com team along with our friends from Bricco, Elementary Coffee Co, Fresa Bistro and more to kick off the Halloween weekend with live music from Little Brother Band!
Nothing like a great neighborhood block party to enjoy great food, local craft beers, and rocking local music!
Thursday, Oct. 26: Rocky Horror Picture Show @ Stallions Club
It is just simply not Halloween without going to a Rocky Horror Picture Show event. The cult classic film has turned into an interactive, crowd participation performance with some of the best musical sing-a-long scores ever put to film. Stallions Club is offering free props to those who show up early, and as with any Rocky Horror event, bring your own and dress up as your favorite character!
There may not be any live bands there but the live musical experience that RHPS brings will have you dancing and singing along throughout the film! Doors open at 9 p.m. and cover is just $7!
Friday, Oct. 27: A Very Jelli Halloween @ The Vegetable Hunter
Over the past few months, I have adopted a vegan lifestyle, and The Vegetable Hunter has become a staple in my weekly travels. I suggest the taco bowl and trying one of their tasty boutique craft brews! This Friday, stop down and check out the “mostly acoustic” trio of the Harrisburg-based group, Jelli, performs everything from punk classics to folk and bluegrass.
Wear your costume and enter to win prizes for the best costumes of the night! Jelli performs from 7-9 p.m. and there is no cover! Stop down for some great food and music before you head out for the rest of the night!
Head down to The Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Co. for a very Keel-O-Ween experience with The Larry Keel Experience. One of the best flat picker guitar players on the planet is stopping through Harrisburg on his tour to bring us some spooky good jams to shake our tails and horns. With one of the best venues for live music in our area, Abbey Bar is a must-stop for this Halloween weekend of live music and good times.
Tickets are just $15 and are available through Ticketfly. Get yours today!
Saturday, Oct. 28: Smooth Like Clyde @ Joe K’s Brewhouse
Boasting a $500 costume contest, head out to Joe K’s Brewhouse on Union Deposit and join the Halloween party with local favorites, Smooth Like Clyde. Every time I’ve seen these guys perform, I get a smile on my face and enjoy a great night of classic covers that span the decades from this group of talented musicians. The event starts at 9 p.m. and won’t stop until last call! Put on your best costume, and come get down with us!
Sunday, Oct. 29: 3rd Annual Halloween Ride in Memory of JD Adams
Time for one last ride. I would be remiss if this one didn’t hit home for me and probably a lot of you reading this. JD Adams was a great friend to me who passed away last year. Growing up in York, the Tourist Inn is a legend for live music, and if you were involved in music in York, you connected with JD Adams at some point.
I reached out to one of the event organizers, Kody Konrad, and he told me, “JD was loved by so many people in so many circles that his family, my brother and myself along with some very close friends thought we’d take it upon ourselves to organize a benefit in his memory in hopes of reducing the stigma that comes along with mental illness.”
There is also a silent auction that includes a signed guitar from the original Lynyrd Skynyrd! Polish off your bike for one more ride this year, registration starts at 10 a.m. and kickstands go up at 12:30 p.m. Come out for a great cause, a rocking good time and, some delicious bbq from Flip’s Tried and True BBQ.
Ditch the candy corn and raise a pint to the most frightening of nights! There are so many great events this weekend happening across the area there is no reason to stay at home with the lights out hoping no one serves you up any tricks instead of Halloween treats!
