About Sara

gravMy dad once said to me, “You know, Sar, you just sat in a bar and figured it all out.”  I always was a writer, that part seemed to happen naturally. The right equation of youth, being broke, a bar/restaurant renaissance in our capital city and not wanting to miss a thing set me up for a gig of a lifetime. Ten years ago, I lived at 5:01 Downtown. Here I met then-Philadelphia mayor Ed Rendell, a hodgepodge of attorneys, lobbyists, food and liquor reps, beer deliverymen and bartenders. I made extra cash by working in bars and restaurants. My first gig was selling bottled beer from two ice-filled tubs stacked atop high-top tables inside the second-floor entryway at then-brand new Eclipse nightclub. By day, I managed a pasta buffet lunch crowd and worked on marketing concepts, theme party ideas and radio and print ad copy. I designed and ordered VIP cards, event flyers, costumes, decorations, a standing order of Mardi Gras beads and even researched and implemented ID card scanners when I was hired full-time as marketing director. But I grew weary of living the nightlife 24 hours a day. Since, I’ve balanced a day job with residencies at my favorite bars, places like the Brick Haus and Garrason’s Tavern, Friday nights at the Pep and any given weekday at Scott’s Grille (yes, all but one of which are long gone). For nearly a decade now, I’ve documented the ebbs and flows of the greater Harrisburg area’s nightlife scene (and beyond) in my weekly column in PennLive/The Patriot-News and my blog, SaraBozich.com. From whiskey dinners to water menus, art receptions to trivia nights, I aim to bring to light all of the magnificent offerings this area can provide. I believe shopping and eating local makes a difference and that promoting our community can only make it stronger. And along the way, we can have a lot of fun. It’s not all about boozing. The area’s greatest asset is not its proximity to other places. Today, my blog aims to serve the region from the al fresco tables on Restaurant Row to our neighboring cities of Carlisle, York and Lancaster and everything in-between. Not only does SaraBozich.com bring you a weekly rundown of events, but it is a resource for news and information about local and touring musical artists, trying new things — from beer and wine to adventure races — and with a look at sports, fashion and more.
